San Francisco's Financial District begins at Montgomery Street and extends east toward the Embarcadero, where you can find eight blocks of interesting shops and restaurants.
Jackson Square, with many buildings erected in the early 1850s, and the only survivors of the 1906 earthquake and fire, is a short walk from Embarcadero Center on the edge of the Financial District. Ride the California Cable Car all the way through Chinatown and over Nob Hill to Van Ness Avenue or transfer to the Powell Mason line to go south to Union Square or north to Fisherman's Wharf.
A 17th floor rooftop park at 343 Sansome Street has great views of Financial District skyscrapers including the TransAmerica Pyramid. See the Bank of America building at 555 California Street, which used to be the tallest building west of the Mississippi River from 1969-1972 until it was dwarfed by the TransAmerica Pyramid. Enjoy a nice meal at the Carnelian Room (415) 433-7500, located at the 52nd floor. Enjoy culinary flavors coupled with awesome bay views. Order your favorite cocktails from their full bar.
If Financial District is your destination stay at the Laurel Inn, a Joie de Vivre Boutique Hotel, or try the Travelodge at the Presidio, which is easier on the pocket and also within a mile.
