North Beach

Also known as Little Italy, North Beach is situated between Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf with Telegraph Hill and Coit Tower on the east and Russian Hill on the west. Sit at an outdoor cafe and enjoy an espresso or cappuccino during the day and at night indulge in the neighborhood that pulsates with some of San Francisco's liveliest nightclubs and bars. You can find many old style cafes, trattorias, bakeries and delicatessens serving traditional Italian foods such as prosciutto (Italian ham), provolone and mozzarella.

A tribute to Christopher Columbus, blessing of San Francisco's fishing fleet, a fiesta and other traditional events are all part of North Beach's celebration of its Italian heritage each October. The North Beach Festival, San Francisco's oldest street fair, turns Grant Avenue and Green Street into a pedestrian party mall each June.

While you are in the neighborhood, see Benjamin Franklin's statute on Washington Square. You can find a lot of people spending time on this square. From there, go and see the Church of Saints Peter and Paul on the north side of Washington Square Park with Columbus Avenue to the west and Broadway to the south.

Set on a bustling street, Hotel Boheme offers a very cozy stay. The walls display pictures of the local heroes at this Bay area boutique hotel, which is not far from Chinatown and other top San Francisco attractions.
