Potrero Hill

Located on east of Mission District and south of SoMa, Potrero Hill is a quite neighborhood bordered by 16th, Third and Cesar Chavez Streets and Potrero Avenue. Potrero Hill is a clearer part of the Bay, where the fog lifts sooner than elsewhere. The southern views of downtown San Francisco are quite stunning. You will find a lot of docks on the eastern edge of the neighborhood. The interesting thing about these docks is that they are built on top of landfill.

If you are a beer lover, go tasting beer at the Anchor Steam Brewery located on Mariposa Street, between Carolina and DeHaro Streets. Check out the crooked section of Vermont Street between 20th and 22nd Streets. Go see O.J. Simpson's murals on Connecticut at 17th Street and at the Potrero Hill Recreation Center. Stroll the shops on 18th Street, between Connecticut and Texas streets. Discover locally produced art and unique fixtures for your home at Collage (415-282-4401).

At Potrero Hill, evening strolls are quite enjoyable, and at night, the streets get deserted but you can find people around the bars and restaurants near 18th Street. Be careful walking at night and plan your stroll wisely.

If you are serious about a walking tour, get guidance from the free map available from the Potrero library branch. Climb to the hill top for a breathtaking view, on the way see various styles of Victorian houses and the Russian church.
