Presidio

Considered by some as the backyard of Presidio Heights, Presidio is rich in nature. Exciting for bikers, great fishing and awesome hikes make this area a nature lover's delight. If you are lucky you may come across foxes. Enjoy miles of eucalyptus groves, see civil war cannons or get great views of the Golden Gate Bridge at Presidio, now part of the National Park Service.

Presidio used to be a military base, off limits to the general public for over 200 years under Spain, Mexico and the United States. Discover buildings steeped in history, go and see the oldest National Cemetery in the United States, and the nearby Presidio's intriguing pet cemetery. Military families began burying their pets here in the 1950s, and local residents still do so.

Visit the historic Crissy Field, which used to be the only army airfield in the western United States (1919 to 1936). Discover the refugee cottages behind the old Post Hospital, see the two bronze cannons at Pershing Square, go to the Officer's Club and visit the Post Interfaith Chapel. Ride the free PresidiGo Around the Park shuttle to get great views of the area.

On the beach, you can find a lot of people watching. Nice place to spend a few hours relaxing.

If you want to stay in Presidio, make your reservations at Travelodge at the Presidio. It is close to nice restaurants and shopping areas.
