South of Market is a gigantic district and spreads from the Embarcadero to 11th Street, between Market and Townsend. It is one of the fastest developing areas of San Francisco and is now considered an emerging hub of art and nightlife. Unfortunately, some places are situated far apart requiring you to walk a lot of deserted blocks to get to a restaurant or a bar. However, in SoMa you will find a hodgepodge of warehouses, posh nightspots, high-rise apartments, trendy shops and art galleries. If you are looking for action, go to South Park, AT&T Park, Museum of Modern Art, Yerba Buena Gardens, or Folsom and 11th Street.

South Park is a grassy square and the perfect outdoor spot to munch on a sandwich. Visit the variety of shops and restaurants nearby. The area near Market and Third Street has a bohemian air, and visitors can discover the museums and the bookstores there. Theater lovers can feel the concentration of artistic energy in Theater Artaud, housed in a spacious old foundry at 17th and Florida Streets. At the Steinhart Aquarium, get a closer look at the alligators, turtles, moray eels, African penguins, a 20,000 gallon coral reef aquarium and much more.
