First opened in 1895, the MH de Young Memorial Museum is San Francisco's oldest, most diversified art museum. In late 2005, after many months of renovation, the facility reopened with a new, copper-clad exterior and newly fashioned exhibits. The museum's collections feature primarily American art from the colonial period to the mid 20th century, but you'll also find textiles, crafts and decorative arts, not to mention extensive collections of African, Oceanic and pan-American art.
Other attractions in the neighborhood include Japanese Tea Garden, Golden Gate Park, Palace of Fine Arts, Exploratorium and The Legion of Honor — all less than 2 miles away.
If you get hungry, Sociale Restaurant (415-921-3200) is less than half a mile away. You will find this place intimate and romantic. Menu includes exotic dishes that use ducks, boars and quails. Chapeau (415-750-9787) nearby also offers succulent roasted chicken and duck.
Later, you may want to hang out at The Abbey Tavern. Shoot pool, throw darts and sip your choice ale as you enjoy the friendly crowd and the music scene at this spot.
If you are looking for nearby luxurious stay, book at the The Hotel Drisco.
