Located within San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts, the Exploratorium is a science lover's dream. Founded by physicist Dr. Frank Oppenheimer in 1969, the museum is leader in teaching science in a relaxed and fun setting.
While you are there, don't miss out on the Tactile Dome ($3 extra). Go back to yesteryears as you climb, crawl and slide in a pitch dark sound proof maze. If you have a fear for closed spaces, do not venture in this exhibit. Admission is free on first Wednesday of the month.
Learn sciences in a fun way through hands on training. More than 650 exhibits in the areas of science, art and human perception offer some new knowledge to everyone. The gift shop is fun to browse as you try to find a gift for that scientist in your life.
The nearby Baker Street Bistro (415-931-1475) is great restaurant choice if you feel like grabbing a bite to eat. It's a nice cozy place with affordable prices. Nectar Wine Lounge is the nearest place to enjoy a drink along with a menu of small tasty plates.
If you feel like staying in the neighborhood, try the Hotel Del Sol. They offer complimentary continental breakfast and free parking. For a luxurious stay, try The Hotel Drisco also situated nearby.
