Located on the hilltop of a golf course park, the museum's entrance is an impressive, multi-columned courtyard in the French neoclassical style. Soon as you enter, you are greeted by Rodin's sculpture The Thinker placed at the center of the courtyard.
Built to commemorate Californian soldiers who died in World War I, the Legion of Honor is a stunning Beaux-arts building. Visitors are able to take in breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, the Golden Gate Bridge and all of San Francisco from the site. The Legion of Honor is rated as San Francisco's most attractive museum. On display, you will find an impressive collection of 4,000 years of antique and European art in an extraordinary setting.
See the individual works by world famous artists like Rembrandt, Gainsborough and David. You can also discover works by impressionists and post-impressionists artists namely Degas, Renoir, Monet, Pissaro, Seurat, Cézanne and others.
Mayflower (415-387-8338) is half a mile away and specializes in Cantonese cuisine. Ton Kiang (415-387-8273) is also within a mile and serves great wonton soup and crab in a black bean sauce. The Abbey Tavern and Mucky Duck are the two nearby bars that you may want to visit.
