Rated as the most crooked street in the world, the steep, hills and sharp curves of this one-way road pass by grand Victorian mansions and attract millions of tourists each year.
In the spring and through out the summers, Lombard Street is lively with color, with chrysanthemums and other lovely flowers in full bloom, as tourists pour down the street.
If you want to get some nice snap shots, go to Leavenworth Street and keep at the bottom, looking up. You will see cars headed down slowly, brave souls walking up and down the sides. At the intersection of Hyde and Lombard, a cable car route provides spectacular views of Alcatraz Island, Angel Island, Coit Tower, Yerba Buena Island and the Bay Bridge.
After Lombard Street, go and see the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park or head toward Fisherman's Wharf. If you feel hungry, step into the nearby San Francisco Art Institute Café (415-749-4567). Try their fruit-studded scones and muffins. You can also have fresh sushi at the Sushi Groove (415-440-1905) also located nearby.
There is a tiny wine bar called Bacchus in the neighborhood that may interest you. A cheese plate foils the alcohol and you can get sushi delivered from the nearby restaurant. If you wish to stay nearby, book yourself at the Comfort Inn by the Bay.
