If you are in the San Francisco Bay area you must not miss out on the San Francisco Zoo, which houses more than 5,000 animals and 250 species and is home to animals like penguins, lions, koalas, polar bears, giraffes and elephants. The zoo also houses one of the largest gorilla habitats in the country.

Visit the Latin American area where you can discover anteaters, storks, tapirs and other native creatures. While you are there, look for a carousel, go to the petting zoo, enjoy the nature trail or see the wildlife theater. The zoo is also a center for wildlife that cares for endangered species. Both children and adults can take learning programs about animals. You can also find a park and nature center displaying plants and gardens.
