This park is about a hour drive north from the city. The main attraction here is the large collection of seaside redwoods. These trees have a life span of 2,000 years or more and some are even taller than 350 feet. The Colonial Armstrong Tree is the most celebrated tree in the grove (1,400 years old).
To get the most out of your trip, you should plan to spend more than a few hours here. Enjoy the scenic atmosphere, fill your lungs with fresh air and just wander around the woods.
You will enjoy the Discovery Trail and the Armstrong Trail. Both of these trails are organized by the State Park and are wheel chair accessible.
If you want to use the picnic area, it is less than a mile from the park entrance. You will find grills, tables and washrooms for your convenience. Group picnics (150 maximum) are allowed on a reservation basis.
The Lark Creek Inn is 49 miles away and is the nearest place to eat and serve traditional American food. Nearest nice hotels are Hotel Del Sol and Hyatt at Fisherman's Wharf — approximately 60 miles away.
