San Francisco's Civic Auditorium is a landmark in the Civic Center neighborhood, the city's special events district. The neighborhood is located on Market Street, halfway between the city's downtown Financial District and the stylish Castro neighborhood. Civic Center is a short distance from the Union Square neighborhood.
Within a few blocks you'll find jazz, opera, classical music, ballet, art exhibits, bookstores and specialty shops. A classic four-story Beaux-Arts structure, the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium occupies an entire city block with elegance and style. Amongst the noteworthy performers from the past are world famous names such as Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead, Elvis Presley, Keith Richards, Prince, Celine Dion, Journey, Beck and Bob Dylan.
The immediate neighborhood includes beautiful buildings of classic proportions and exciting contemporary structures in a lively, urban setting. Famous neighbors include the Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall, the War Memorial Opera House, the New Main Library, the Asian Art Museum and San Francisco City Hall.
A nice hotel in the neighborhood is the Hotel Britton. It offers a comfortable stay with fine dining and shopping nearby. The Ramada Limited Downtown is also a nice option considering the three modes of public transport are available right at the doorstep and the hotel is also close to Union Square and trendy SoMA.
