Take the BART from the airport and use local transport (cablecar, streetcar and bus) it's very efficient and reasonably priced.
-
Ride the bus and allow yourself "to be lost". It was a pleasant experience for us to be cruising and saw the sign "Daly City", where the atmosphere and the ambiance was warm and cool. We just hopped off and on the next bus back to the SF center.
-
The Palace Hotel is excellently located.
-
The staff was amazing. Very friendly and helpful! Great price and value.
-
San Francisco was great, only the hotel was awful.
-
Staying close to the airport & freeway make it easy to get around after the 49er football games.
-
Use mass transit. It is inexpensive convenient and the employees are very helpful.
-
take a bus tour the first day---then plan your activities

Don't miss a park or two, as well as, a day in Sausalito, which has a most unique Rodeo Beach.
If Lombard St is on your list, a drive down late in the day is best.
The Bart is easy, clean and an inexpensive way to get around.
And, if there's time, check out the Millenium Restaurant which is tasty,
healthy and one of a kind (not to mention around the corner from the Serrano Hotel).
